So, you have decided that you are ready to land that remote job.

You have done your research, bookmarked some of your favorite remote job directories (have you checked out mine?), and even networked with some ideal brands, clients, and/or businesses that align with your values and expertise.

The natural next step is sending off your “Remotified” resume to land you that amazing new remote job.

But, do you find yourself a little lost and even a bit frazzled on how to start crafting your “Remotified” resume?

Let’s walk through the simple five steps together to get you the best remote ready resume!

Do you know what your career story is?

What is your elevator pitch that you can present to potential employers or clients to describe yourself?

To develop an impactful introduction of who you are and to capture the attention of any recruiter be sure to identify what your mission, values, and objectives are.

Define this in both a broader professional sense and a tailored version specific to the remote job you are applying for.

A great idea is to always include what industry or industries you have gained your experience and education in and how your accomplishments will be beneficial to the remote job you are applying to.

Making that connection between your background and the job requirements, needs, and responsibilities listed will only push you further up in the recruitment process and increase your chances of being hired.

Ultimately, your goal is to position yourself with a unique selling point through your knowledge, skillset, experience, and passions. Craft your career story in such a way that showcases your unique abilities that no one else would be able to duplicate.

This could be anything from your exceptional knack for writing, eye for design, or ability to create a cohesive story through content and visuals.

And, remember do not be afraid to sell yourself. You should be confident and know the value and solutions you will bring to any remote job you apply to.

Identifying Your Skills

Once you have identified who you are and how your experiences align with a specific remote job, the next step is sifting through your skills.

Even if you have never had a remote job before you most likely possess transferable skills from previous experiences, positions, jobs, school or online courses that can be utilized at your new remote job.

This is the perfect time to conduct a remote skills inventory on yourself.

What skills do you currently possess that will set you apart in a remote working environment?

A great way to identify whether you have certain skills is reviewing remote job postings and looking for common skills throughout the postings and recognizing if you have them.

Next, you want to organize your skills on your remote resume in a way that demonstrates the skills you have acquired professionally either through work, school, or a combination; and skills that are more universal and transferable that are not job specific.

If you find yourself struggling with this step, conduct a bit of research online and identify what skills recruiters are looking for in your specific industry and then incorporate them into your remote resume.

Remote-Friendly Tools

Working in a remote job will require you to be proficient in a variety of different digital software platforms, collaboration tools, and management systems crucial to your success in any remote job.

Similarly to conducting a remote skills inventory, you want to conduct a remote-friendly tools inventory of the platforms you are comfortable using.

Again, the best place to look when determining whether you are familiar with a specific remote friendly tool is a remote job description.

If you find yourself not familiar enough with a platform, spend a bit of time navigating the tool and teaching yourself the basics so you are comfortable enough with using it in a remote work environment.

Remote Experience

You have your career story developed, your remote skills audited, and some remote friendly tools identified.

Now, one of the final steps in perfecting a “Remotified” resume is listing your remote specific and other past experiences and positions you have held.

Be sure to be concise and descriptive with the titles, the length of time, location, business, and the accomplishments you achieved or contributed to during your time in a role.

Use strong action words when describing the specific targets and goals you reached on a project or job. This tactic will not only showcase your skills and knowledge but will encourage recruiters to learn more about you (aka call you in for an interview).

Worked remotely during the pandemic? Be sure to add that to your resume!
