6 myths holding you back from working remotely!
I hear so many misconceptions about remote work, and I want to debunk some of those myths right now!
“I don't think I can work remotely because I’m not in a creative field”
“I can't start because I don't have a degree or experience”
And, the truth is… you don’t need any of that!
𝗠𝘆𝘁𝗵 𝟭 - ‘You need to be active on social media.”
A lot of people get stressed out because they think that they can't possibly work remotely if they're not active on social media or because they don't have a high follower or subscriber count..
No, señorita. You don’t need to know anything about social media if you work in the administrative field & your job has nothing to do with social media.
You also don’t need a big following or even know how to use Instagram or be up to date on tiktok trends.
The truth is your social media does not matter if you want to work remotely. The employer might stalk you online to make sure that you're a real person & that you don’t seem unprofessional or unreliable.
𝗠𝘆𝘁𝗵 𝟮 - ‘You need a special degree.’
8/10 jobs can be done remotely — if you learn the right digital tools to do them. No degree needed.
Right now, there are companies that are going fully remote (Check out my Remote Job Directory here!) which means they are hiring for all kinds of positions. s
Of course, you will need to get remote friendly skills…. but, that doesn’t necessarily mean that the education has to be a formal college degree. If you need to learn more about a specific skill, you can always do an online course!
𝗠𝘆𝘁𝗵 𝟯 - ‘You need to make a big investment to start.”
If you feel like you need to redo a room in your home to turn it into an office or buy the newest laptop or other equipment, nope… don’t you worry.
You just need whichever laptop & smartphone you already have & decent WiFi.
Oh, and a legit remote job will never ask you for any money upfront to get hired, either!
𝗠𝘆𝘁𝗵 𝟰 - ‘You need to have remote experience to land your first job.’
Just like you do when you’re starting out your career, you can get your first job without previous experience.
Of course, your first remote job might be entry level & from there you can grow as you learn new tools & skills.
𝗠𝘆𝘁𝗵 𝟱 - ‘You can’t make decent money if you work remotely.’
Working remotely does not mean low-paying jobs or struggling to find clients. You can find full-time jobs that pay well AND offer lots of benefits. I actually make more money now than when I work in Corporate America & I know a lot of people in my position.
You are going to have more flexibility with your time and schedules which means you are going to have more free time to work on things like learning new skills & having “side hustles.” You will no longer have to rely on one income from that one job — which is the best way to be more financial stable. With one job, if you lose it tomorrow you are going to say goodbye to all your income.
𝗠𝘆𝘁𝗵 𝟲 - You don't have to become an international traveller
You don’t need to become a full-time traveler or a digital nomad. You do become location independent, but you can just take advantage of that freedom to work from home & then travel occasionally.
Are you being held back by one of these beliefs?
Many people believe these myths & it's stopping them from taking action towards their dreams!
Now that you see they are just common misconceptions, I don’t want you to let them stop you from working remotely.
